Japan OAT Trip, Nov 2014. Kanazawa. Gokayama mountain village. We get a demonstration on making Mochitsuki, rice cakes made of mochigome, a short-grain japonica glutinous rice. We get to participate in the preparation and also eat the product of our efforts! The hot rice is pounded (it is hard work) into a big blob and then round balls are made from it, rolled in some kind of fine brown sugar stuff, and served with red bean paste and tea. It was really quite good! The bean past didn't tase like beans at all. We had a good time.
