Japan OAT Trip, Nov 2014. Kyoto. Looking down at one of the entrances to Kyoto Station. Kyoto Tower is an observation tower. The steel tower is the tallest structure in Kyoto with the observation deck at 100 metres (328 ft) and the spire at 131 metres (430 ft). The 800-ton tower stands atop a 9-story building, which houses a 3-star hotel and several stores. The entire complex stands opposite Kyoto Station. We could walk here from our hotel. The observation tower is enclosed so you are looking through glass. There are labels on the glass indicating what you are seeing in the distance and free stationary binoculars to use. An attendant was observed going around cleaning the glass where people have touched it so not to leave smudges.
